Rizal: A Musical

After downloading some of the songs made concerning to Dr. Jose Rizal by Gary Granada, I played the first track of the album and heard “Ngunit sino ka, sino ka ba. Sino ka nga bang talaga, sino ka ba. Sino ka ba Jose Rizal, sino ka ba. Mayron nga bang taong singdunong mo. Sino ka ba Jose Rizal, sino ka ba.Mayron nga bang taong katulad mo”. I was amazed with the way the song writer wrote the lyrics because it is asking who is really Rizal and then in the verses will tell about some things about Rizal. I think this song “Sino Ka Ba, Jose Rizal?” is expressing the greatness of Dr. Jose Rizal through wondering about him and then sudden lines telling his professions and abilities.

I also heard the last part of the track named “Que Bobo Bobo”. I do not know why it was entitled like that, but for us Filipinos, it may not sound good in our ears since the word “Bobo” is negative. Moving on, I was laughing out loud while hearing it because of the way the singer sings, the tune and rhythm and with matching cool lyrics. The first verse of the lyrics is saying the not so good physical appearance of Pepe when he was a kid. But despite telling that, it will be covered up in the last line of the verse Rizal saying, “Ulo ko’y gagawing monumento. In the last verse, it is saying who is dull between Indios and Spanish and then in the last line, it will be pointed to the Spanish.

You can download all the songs here!

I am really glad that some of our artists are still interested in Rizal’s greatness and being as our national hero. Giving a tribute through music and lyrics to any of our heroes is one of the nicest ways of showing praise and respect to them.
